About Us

True Care was launched to give seniors in the Greater Hamilton Area the support they need to live their best lives. Traditional home and nursing care is more commonly focused on assisting seniors with medical needs and delivered from a clinical perspective. While this is important, we are proud to offer support services that consider the holistic lifestyle needs of seniors looking to continue to fully engage inside and outside of their homes.

Our team has direct experiences with a diverse set of contexts of delivering care and support. These perspectives were all brought to bear in the creation of the unique value proposition and approach that True Care offers. We develop close and personal relationships with our clients and treat them as extended members of our families. In addition to working with seniors directly, we often engage with families and other services providers to coordinate continuums of care.

Ashley McLaren is President and founder of True Care, as well as the proud mother of two beautiful daughters. Her career and life experience has given her a diversity of perspectives and capabilities which she brings to bear in leading True Care.

Family supporting family was a consistent theme in her upbringing. Observing her parents take care of both children and her grandparents, it was instinctive for young Ashley to step in to start taking on some of the responsibilities in her family, such as running errands, preparing meals, and housekeeping. Throughout her professional career, realizing that not everyone has a strong support system led her to launch True Care to help fill in the gaps for others.

Since 2009, Ashley has supported adults over 55 with hearing loss as a counsellor with Canadian Hearing Services. Through this role she works extensively to support her older clients to stay involved in social activities, ensure their safety, and set them up to continue to be independent in their homes. Most recently, this role expanded to include guidance, advocacy, support, and counselling for Deaf and hard of hearing individuals of all ages. This support helps them to engage with government systems, cope with hearing loss, attend court, and address other life needs.

Previously, Ashley worked for 3 years in an outreach capacity with March of Dimes Canada and directly assisted adults with various needs in their homes such as personal care, feeding, bathing, dressing, and housework. She also worked part time as a personal care attendant with West Park Health Centre for 10 years, helping young adults with various abilities who were living independently for the first time with activities like preparing for self-care, setting goals, and developing life skills. Her leadership also led her to serve a 3 year term on the board of directors of Hamilton Urban Core Community Health Centre, and she currently sits on the Niagara Regional Police Service’s Chief of Police Community Inclusion Council.

Ashley holds a Bachelor of Arts in Health and Society and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from McMaster University. She also completed a postgraduate certificate in Workplace Wellness and Health Promotion from Centennial College.
